Omah Lay, a Nigerian talented superstar, singer, has caused controversy by asserting that Yorubas dominate the Afrobeats genre, making it difficult for musicians from other ethnic groups to succeed in Lagos.
Omah Lay claimed that after moving from Port Harcourt, he had to put in a lot of effort to get a job in the Lagos music industry, which at times seemed draining. Speaking during the listening party for his upcoming album, “Clarity Of Mind,” the singer stated that he is now satisfied with the affection of his family and fans and no longer looks to Lagos or the international music industry for approval.
“Afrobeats is primarily from Lagos. Yorubas predominate. We all know that Fela Kuti, who is Yoruba, is the pioneer. You need to break into Lagos; I’m from Port Harcourt. Burna Boy and I are the only two PH residents you are aware of. There came a time when I thought, ‘You know what? I’m going to take my time and gaze at my loved ones and fans; I’m going to stay with those who truly care about me. F**k off; the rest of you and the rest of the world don’t love me. “That’s it,” he declared.
