Millions of Naira in Property Destroyed by Fire in Ilorin

On Thursday nite, a fire in a building in Ilorin, Kwara State, destroyed items valued at millions of naira. The incident took place at a building behind the Industrial Training Fund in the Asa-Dam neighbourhood of the city, next to Ile-Anu Wofem Church, at approximately 3:56 p.m.

The building included a room-and-parlor self-contained apartment and apartments with three bedrooms.

Before firefighters could reach the scene, three bedrooms were damaged by the fire.

By the time workers arrived at the scene, the flames had already spread considerably due to the delay in reporting the issue to the fire department.

However, firefighters were able to control the fire and stop it from spreading to a nearby block of self-contained apartments by acting quickly and expertly.

According to preliminary inquiry, the fire was started by a power surge that ignited flammable materials in the building’s damaged area.

Residents are recommended to have their electrical installations routinely inspected and maintained by trained professionals by CFO Alabi Muhammed, Chief Fire Officer of the State Fire Service.

Additionally, he emphasised that early notification provides firefighters better chances to control the problem before it spreads beyond containment and asked the public to contact the fire department as soon as they saw a fire.
