He said the incident occurred on the Seme-Badagry highway on Friday, November 29.

A young man named Franklin Obiajuru Egwuatu has described how Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) officers physically abused him and demanded N100,000 from him, claiming he looked like a “Yahoo boy.

” Many Nigerians and security personnel use the loose term “Yahoo boy” to refer to an online scammer. He said the incident occurred on the Seme-Badagry highway on Friday, November 29.

Franklin stated that he was travelling from the Benin Republic, where he had resided since 2017, according to SaharaReporters.

He claimed that he was treated like a criminal and made to move funds from his Access Bank account to Apexze Global Concept Limited’s (Joy Yakubu) Moniepoint Microfinance Bank account number 6739461449.

According to a check by SaharaReporters, Apexze Global Concept Limited was incorporated on August 7, 2023, and has registration number 7083495. Its business address is Igbereko Street, Badagry, Lagos. Joy Yakubu is the only owner of it.

I was extorted N100,000 by Nigeria Immigration Service employees because I appeared to be a yahoo boy. Franklin informed SaharaReporters, “It happened yesterday at the Seme/Badagry motorway.”

They also looked through my phone and didn’t find anything that would implicate me, but they insisted that I was a Yahoo boy because my wife’s number is from the Benin Republic. Since 2017, I have been living in the Benin Republic with my spouse.

They assaulted me and falsely accused me of fraud without providing any supporting documentation. After that, they led me to an unfinished building and threatened to shoot and kill me.

They then gave me Apexze Global Concept’s Moniepoint account number, 6739461449, to transfer N100,000 to, which I did under duress. Similar to their counterparts in Nigerian Customs, members of the Nigerian Immigration Service are notorious for extortion and standard bending in border areas to defraud Nigerians and foreigners of their money.

The NIS authorities have not yet responded to this most recent extortion incident.
