The convoy of Mr Adamu Hashim Langa, Member of Parliament representing Ningi/Walji Federal Constituency, Bauchi State, in the House of Representatives, was allegedly attacked by angry youths in Ningi.

Newspaper Pledged: reported that Mr Langa, who was elected by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, was on Sunday attending the funeral of the late Emir of Ningi, Chief Muhammadu Yunusa Danyaya, along with other notables of the Ningi Emirate Council.

During the event, however, some youths in the constituency expressed their displeasure with his representative, accusing him of neglecting the constituency since he was elected and relocated to Abuja.

The youths began chanting “Ba Mui, Ba Mui”, which means “We don’t need you” in Hausa, while throwing sand and stones at the lawmaker who entered the palace of the deceased at about 5:42pm, when the Emir left.

As the attack continued, it was concluded that all efforts to calm the youths were futile. The attack escalated as the deputy approached the car, causing severe damage including shattered windows, windscreen and rear-view mirror.

An eyewitness described the incident as unfortunate in a telephone interview with Newspaper Pledged.

He said: “As I was coming out of the palace in deep sorrow over the death of our chief, I saw some youths throwing sand and stones at the car. As I got closer, I realised that our deputy was under attack.”

He added that the youths rallied on the sight of the MP, positioned themselves near his car and launched an attack as soon as he left the palace.

He further noted that it took the intervention of security forces to disperse the deputy from the scene. At the time of writing, attempts to reach MP Adam Hashim Langa for comment were unsuccessful.

It should be recalled that his constituents also tried to remove him from parliament. It was only with the intervention of the late Chief Ningi and others that the signature collection in this sense could be halted.
