The National Spokesperson for APGA, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, expressed the party’s disapproval of Ikwechegu’s actions, which he said were “reprehensible in every sense” and inconsistent with the party’s values and bylaws.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has announced plans to set up a disciplinary committee to investigate the conduct of the Member of Parliament for Aba North-South Federal Constituency, Alex Ikwechegu, who was seen in a video sending an e-hailing driver to attack.
The incident was captured on a video that went viral online and shows Ikwechegu allegedly attacking a bolt driver who had come to deliver goods to his home.
In a press release issued on Monday, the APGA National Spokesperson, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, expressed the party’s disapproval of Ikwechegu’s actions, which he said were “reprehensible in every sense” and inconsistent with the party’s values and bylaws.
The statement read: “Our great political party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, has drawn attention to a video circulating online depicting an alleged attack on a citizen by the Honourable Member of Parliament for Aba North-South Federal Constituency, Alex Ikwuechegwu. “As a political party based on respect for human rights, we strongly condemn within the framework of our great party the actions of the said member and Member of Parliament representing Aba North-South Federal Constituency, Mr. Alex Ikwechegu.
“We as a party are based on the fundamental principle of upholding the dignity of all people, regardless of class, creed or ethnicity. The recent video of Ikwechegu allegedly attacking a taxi driver is totally unacceptable and goes against the ideals of our party (APGA).
“According to the APGA constitution, the party leadership should set up a disciplinary committee to investigate this act and if found wanting, should impose appropriate sanctions in accordance with the APGA constitution.”
Opara said all APGA members and all elected officials within the party are expected to demonstrate the highest standards of civility, decorum and integrity in public and private life.
“Our party will not tolerate any clear actions that are inconsistent with the ideals of our founding fathers. “We at APGA are the protectors of our brothers and sisters and we cannot be anything else,” the statement continued.
