Governor Hyacinth Alia,

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has recalled the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Mr. Fidelis Muyim, following his earlier suspension.

The announcement was made on Monday in Makurdi during a meeting of the state Executive Council chaired by the Governor.

The Attorney General was initially suspended on October 23 over the government’s “unilateral decision” to involve Benue State in a case questioning the legality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) that were challenged.

Spokesman to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, speaking to reporters after the Council meeting, confirmed that Muyim reinstatement was subject to compliance with conditions set by the government.

The Attorney General was removed from office after formally removing Benue from the list of states challenging the constitutionality of the laws establishing the EFCC and ICPC.

On other matters approved by the council, he said: “The council approved counter value funds of N30.2 billion representing 60% for the construction of five local roads in the three senatorial districts.

“The roads to be constructed are Awadile/Oju, Adikpo/Kotiyo/Vandeikya, Ushongo/Har, Igwumare/Agila and Obagaji/Okokolo/Agagbe.

“The sum of N567 million was approved as compensation to the people of Mbagwa and Mbawa communities in Makurdi Local Government for land allocated for Federal Housing Projects.

“The council also resolved to enact a state disability law for persons with disabilities and approved a contribution of N10 million to the Nigerian Army for this year’s Armed Forces Day.

“The council approved the establishment of the Benue State Signs and Advertising Authority to regulate billboards, billboards and other promotional activities.”
