The First Lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu, has denied attending the scheduled national prayer against a victorious situation in the United States.

The First Lady and National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, are said to be participating in the seven-day prayer against a victorious situation in the United States.

A report by the Executive Secretary of the National Prayer Forum, Segun Afollonnikan, said Tinubu’s wife, Ribadu, was among the organisers of the programme, titled “Seeking Divine Intervention in Nigerian Affairs”.

According to the Newspaper Pledge report, Afollonnikan said the initiative would be coordinated in collaboration with Christian and Muslim religious leaders.

However, the First Lady’s spokesman, Busola Kukoyi, denied the allegations in a statement on Saturday. She said: “This is to enlighten and inform the public that the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has not organized a national prayer.”

“The news being circulated in some traditional media and social media platforms is unfounded and misleading. Therefore, anyone who may have come across the alleged news of a national collective prayer for Nigeria must dismiss it as false.

“While the First Lady is a Christian and strongly believes in praying for Nigeria, and believes that prayer is an act that should be undertaken voluntarily, diligently and effectively, she also believes that praying for Nigeria is the duty of all Nigerians, regardless of their religious beliefs, political party affiliation, tribe or language.

“The public is urged to verify the authenticity of any news or events relating to the First Lady or her office through legitimate channels. Please follow the advice.”
