Recall that the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpeboro, who won the September 21, 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election by defeating Asue Ighodaro of the PDP, is set to be sworn in on Tuesday, November 12. Mr.
Obaseki condemned the APC’s act as lawless, stressing that the state government should be responsible for monitoring the inauguration program. “Someone has to be sworn in,” he said. “They’ve sworn in to the existing government.
They’re not going to just come out of nowhere and create a government. There’s already a government. There’s a way of doing things.
“The Edo State government is expected to appoint a new governor on Tuesday, but what you are seeing now, all the posters, show that the Edo State government is not involved.
“So it’s crazy when people act as if there are no laws in this country. Sometimes I sit there and ask myself,
“Are we doing well as a country? We are guided by the Constitution. We follow the laws, the precedents and the procedures.
“So they’re having an inauguration ceremony, and I, as the governor, know nothing about it. I wasn’t even invited. It’s like creating a whole new state and government.”
