In honour of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the conclusion of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the Federal Government has proclaimed Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays. On behalf of the Federal Government, Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo greeted and congratulated Muslims on successfully finishing the holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement released by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister asked Muslims to uphold the characteristics that were stressed during the holy month: love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice. Additionally, he urged all Nigerians to use the holiday season to offer prayers for the country’s ongoing prosperity, peace, and togetherness.
The minister wishes Muslims a happy Eid-ul-Fitr while urging people to celebrate sensibly and show compassion to those who are less fortunate. The statement went on, “The federal government remains committed to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.”
