FRSC Corps Commander, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, said the incident could have been avoided.
In a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Olusegun Ogungbemide in Abuja, Muhammed said the accident was due to poorly maintained vehicle, speeding and disregard for traffic rules.

The fatal accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number MRR 83. The driver collided head-on with a Dangote Group Sino truck.

“The accident could have been avoided if the driver had adhered to legal speed limits, maintained his vehicle properly and observed traffic rules,” he said.

The FRSC chief cited examples in recent years of poor driving behaviour leading to avoidable road accidents, stressing that if drivers do the right thing, problems related to accidents and fatalities in Nigeria would be a thing of the past.

He added that a huge responsibility for road safety rests on everyone’s shoulders.

He said drivers must adhere to posted speed limits, ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles and follow traffic rules to prevent such accidents.
