The governor reiterated that his relationship with Kwankwaso remains as strong and respectful as it has been for the past four decades.
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has denied rumors of a rift between him and political leader and 2023 New Nigeria Peoples Party presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Yusuf also described it as the “biggest insult” to political groups. “Aba Tsaya Da Kafalka” (meaning “Aba, stand on your own two feet”) was formed to encourage Kwankwaso to make decisions regardless of the opinion of the governor, which he has experienced.
A faction formed within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) recently made headlines by calling on Governor Yusuf to distance himself from political leaders.
The movement is gaining momentum, with members of both the party and other political circles asserting Yusuf’s autonomy. Governor Yusuf said of the group’s stance: “The slogan ‘Stand on your own two feet’ is the biggest insult I have experienced as a governor. It implies that you have to return bad for good
What has Kwankwaso done to me? All the good we are doing for the people is being ignored and instead they are encouraging this divisive rhetoric,” Yusuf noted, adding, “It’s like the people don’t know what we are doing for them.”
He made this statement at a press conference in Kano yesterday, addressing the speculations and rumours circulating about his feud with Kwankwaso.
The governor reiterated that his relationship with Kwankwaso remains as strong and respectful as it has been for the past 40 years.
