His Majesty King Obi Epiphany Azinge (SAN), the newly crowned Asagba of Asaba State, has announced that he welcomes advice and constructive criticism but will not tolerate palace gossip under any circumstances.

In a grand coronation ceremony on Saturday, Ochende Asagba (Regent) King Louis Edojian handed over the baton of the office, symbolizing the mandate of leadership, to the newly installed monarch, Chief Ubaka Attu, the demon soldier of Asaba.

Amid cheers from the crowd, Obi Azinge paid tribute to the late Asagba, describing his vision as “unprecedented” and ensuring that his leadership would build on the foundations laid by his predecessor.

The monarch also called on all contenders for the throne to set aside their differences and unite for the progress of Asaba. “No sport is without challenges, but I urge all my fellow athletes to join me in moving Asaba forward.

“There is much to be done but I cannot do it alone,” he said, offering a peace offer to those seeking the position.

Obi Azinge also vowed to leverage his local and international connections to develop Asaba and ensure the city secures its rightful place as one of Nigeria’s oldest and most respected urban centres.
He vowed to carry on the visionary legacy of his predecessor, the late Asagba of Asaba, Obi Professor Chike Edozien, but issued a stern warning against gossip within the kingdom.

“I would like to thank the 13th Asagba of Asaba for joining our forefathers. His vision is unparalleled. It felt like the Obi, Professor Chike Edojian, lived forever.

He encouraged us to pick up where we left off and that is exactly what I plan to do.
“There will be zero tolerance for gossip in my palace. I welcome advice and constructive criticism but I will not tolerate gossip in my palace under any circumstances,” he warned.

Reflecting on his election as the 14th Asagba, Obi Azinge stressed the trust reposed in him by the people of Asaba and his determination to honour that trust. On August 18, 2024, this Palace has chosen me to follow in the footsteps of my predecessor.

The qualities you have seen in me reflect my commitment to serve the people. I will never betray this trust.

“I am determined to utilise all available resources and partnerships to foster the development of our ancient city and restore its honoured place in the country,” he said.
