The head of the Lagbaja family of Ilobu Kingdom, Osun State, Mr Demola Lagbaja, has revealed that the late Chief of Army Staff Taohide Lagbaja did not enjoy life outside the military.
The head of the family said this on Monday when the Old Boys Association of St. Charles Grammar School, Osogbo, paid a condolence visit to the Lagbaja family in Ibadan on Monday.
According to him, the family expected their late son to retire after his service and enjoy the fruits of his labor.
Mr Lagbaja said the family had submitted to the will of God after the incident, saying “some tears will never dry.”
He noted that the late Chief of Staff spent all his active years in the military and graduated from the University of Technology. “It was our wish that never came true. What happened, happened. We have to follow God’s will, but we are very proud of our son because he made us proud. We can only pray for him to rest in peace,” Lagbaja said.
The head of the Lagbaja family thanked the association for their visit, adding that well was spoken of about his late son even after his death. Earlier, a delegation led by the Chairman of the Board of Education, Mr. Sola Omopo, delivered a message of condolence to the family on behalf of the Itami branch members of the association.
Mourning the deceased, Mr. Omopo said he had done a lot for the school and was a proud and dedicated member until his death.
“He built regular projects worth about 550 million naira for the school, about 80 percent completed.
“When we heard the news, it came as a great shock to all of us in Nigeria and the diaspora, which is why we decided to pay our condolences to the family,” he said.
Recall that the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taohid Lagbaja passed away on November 5th at the age of 56.
