SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman for the command, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, October 21, 2024, said Osinusi forced the survivor to pledge that she would not tell anyone that she was going to die.
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 42-year-old teacher Gbolahan Osinusi for repeatedly raping a 17-year-old girl from age 12.
The teacher, who is also the girl’s guardian, took the girl to a nurse named Mariam Fatoru to give her abortion pills to be administered if she became pregnant.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman for the command, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, October 21, 2024, said Osinusi forced the survivor to pledge that she would not tell anyone that she was going to die.
The PPRO disclosed that the charges were filed against Osinusi on October 16, when Mariam was admitted to Ketupe General Hospital for treatment. “On the 30th of September 24th at about 3pm, a case of rape/abortion was referred by the Festac Division to the Gender Division of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja,” the statement said.
“The complainant alleges that one Gbolahan Osinusi, 42, a teacher in a school in Ketuepe, Lagos State and guardian of her 17-year-old daughter, had sexual relations with the survivor from the time she was 12 years old until December 2023 when she turned 17 years old.
Furthermore, it was alleged that the suspect Gbolahan Osinusi coerced the survivor into swearing that she would not tell anyone and would die, adding that he repeatedly took her to a nurse named Mariam Fatoru to administer abortion drugs if she became pregnant. Hence the complaint.
“The said Gbolahan Osinusi was arraigned on the 16th of October 24th, while Mariam is currently admitted to the Ketuepe General Hospital for treatment. She will be brought to justice as soon as possible.”
