Zimbabwean man sentenced to 12 months in prison for brutal domestic violence attack on wife
A Bindura Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 32-year-old man to an effective 12 month prison term after he admitted to hitting his wife with a razor blade during a domestic dispute.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the June 21, 2026, incident at a farm in Bindura was caused by a fight over allegations of adultery.
The prosecution informed the court that the guy pretended to seek an intimate relationship before grabbing his 42-year-old wife’s genital area and cutting a piece of it with a razor blade.
The man reportedly suffered from significant bleeding following the attack.
The NPAZ claims that afterward, the man gave her water to wash herself while she bled. The accused admitted to domestic violence involving physical abuse in accordance with Zimbabwe’s Domestic Violence Act.
In exchange for good behaviour, the court suspended six months of his initial 18-month prison term for five years, leaving him with an effective 12-month sentence.
The NPAZ responded to the decision by saying that the legal system is still committed to protecting victims of gender-based violence and ensuring that those who commit these crimes are held accountable.
Nigerian Army Begins Exercise Thunder Strike 2026 in Several States
In an effort to increase its personnel operational readiness, the Nigerian Army Armour School in Bauchi has announced intentions to hold a military training exercise known as Exercise Thunder Strike 2026.
A firepower demonstration for Nigerian Defence Academy cadets will take place on June 25, 2026, at the Victor Kure Armour Range along the Bauchi Jos Road, according to a statement signed by Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations Major Adekunle Adeyemi.
Activities are also planned in the vicinity of Zaranda Hill and Geji Village in Bauchi Local Government Area.
The primary training exercise would take place in several places, including Bara in Gombe State, Bashar and Dengi in Plateau State, Karim and Muri in Taraba State, and Alkaleri Local Government Area in Bauchi State, from June 29 to July 2, 2026.
Residents have been informed that throughout the exercise period, there will be more personnel, armoured vehicles, military hardware, and low-flying aircraft.
Assuring that all required safety precautions have been taken, the Army urged farmers, herders, and other members of the public not to panic at the sound of gunfire. They also advised people to avoid specific exercise locations throughout the training time.
On July 2, Armoured Fighting Vehicles will participate in a live weapons demonstration to wrap up the drill.
Additionally, the Army urged media outlets to help raise public awareness and foster community collaboration in the impacted areas.
Court Postpones Assault Case Against Rapper Odumodublvck Until October
An assault and battery lawsuit against rapper Odumodublvck, whose real name is Tochukwu Ojogwu, has been postponed to October 13 and 14 by a Federal High Court in Abuja after the defence requested more time to present its case.
Levi Ogbogiri, also known as Kraziecent, filed the case in November 2025, claiming that the rapper attacked him without warning on December 16, 2024, at a public gathering.
Ogbogiri stated that the alleged attack constituted to assault, battery, and deliberate infliction of emotional distress, and that it also damaged his iPhone 15 Pro Max while he was calmly shooting pictures and making recordings.
Uchenna Ojembe, the claimant’s attorney, told the court at Tuesday’s hearing before Justice Adeyemi Ajayi that his client, the only witness in the case, was present and prepared to start.
However, defence attorney Damilare Adeojo requested an adjournment, noting a pending motion filed in November 2025 that had already been served to the claimant’s legal team and asking for additional time to prepare.
Ojembe objected to the request, pointing out that the defence had already obtained multiple adjournments. He asked the court to approve the delay only if N500,000 in fees were assessed against the defence.
While Justice Ajayi advised the claimant’s attorney to show professional civility to his colleague prior to granting the adjournment, Adeojo rejected the proposed sentence.
There have been several delays in the case, including one in May when the defendant’s attorney was not present and the proceedings could not continue.
NDC Tells Governor Diri to Focus on Development, Not Politics in Bayelsa
The Nigeria Democratic Congress Bayelsa State chapter has called on Governor Douye Diri to prioritise sustainable development and economic growth and to embrace a more inclusive leadership style that is centred on the welfare of Bayelsans rather than political objectives.
Speaking to reporters in Yenagoa, State NDC Chairman Dauprebo Ikuromo cautioned the state government against trying to entice NDC candidates with financial incentives meant to sow discord within the party. He insisted that no kind of inducement could divert the party from its objective of assuming control of the state.
He proposed that these monies would be better used to address urgent developmental issues in Bayelsa, such as commissioned gas turbines that are still not in operation.
In response to allegations of internal party grievances, Ikuromo stated that a thorough redress mechanism had been established under the direction of Senator Henry Seriake Dickson and that the National Executive Council of the party would make its list of candidates for various positions available within the time frame set by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Dickson’s management of the party’s primary elections across the country was commended by the NDC chairman, who called his actions “fair, tactful, and commendable.”
Additionally, he emphasised the party’s intentional inclusion of women and young people in the primaries as a sign of its dedication to affirmative action and increased political engagement.
Ikuromo urged Bayelsa party members and supporters to stick together and concentrate on the common goal of overthrowing what he called a failing government party.
Oyo Government Imposes 16-Hour Curfew in 10 Local Government Areas
Due to security concerns in towns that border Old Oyo National Park, the Oyo State Government has implemented a 16-hour curfew in ten local government areas, which will take effect on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The restriction, which was approved by Governor Seyi Makinde, is in effect every day from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. for the first 48 hours. Following that, the situation will be evaluated and additional instructions will be given.
Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba are the local government districts covered by the directive, which was signed by Secretary to the State Government Professor Musibau Babatunde.
Residents in the impacted regions have been asked to cooperate with security personnel stationed to enforce the curfew and to fully abide by it.
NSA Phone-Tapping Case: Court Reviews El-Rufai’s Interview as Evidence
On Monday, the Federal High Court in Abuja replayed an interview that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai gave when human rights attorney Deji Adeyanju testified in the State Security Service’s alleged phone tapping case against the former governor.
As the second prosecution witness before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, Adeyanju testified that the recording accurately depicted what he saw during the February 13 Arise Television program in which El-Rufai made allegations regarding the purported interception of a phone conversation involving National Security Advisor Nuhu Ribadu.
Adeyanju recounted in his evidence that on February 12, there had been rumours that El-Rufai would either be welcomed or arrested by security forces after returning from Cairo, Egypt.
He maintained that the issue was not politically motivated and claimed to have openly pushed the former governor to accept any request from security authorities.
He informed the court that on February 13, he and El-Rufai both participated on the same Arise Television program, however his segment was broadcast after the former governor’s.
“El-Rufai was on the show when I went to Arise. His part was followed by mine. I heard him talk about a variety of topics during the interview, and I refuted a lot of what he stated since it was either untrue or only partially true, he said.
Adeyanju added that he was invited by the SSS and issued a statement after accepting the interview.
“I verified El-Rufai’s claim that he received the information through a tap. I wrote all of that down,” he remarked.
The court replayed the interview that was previously submitted during the first prosecution witness’s testimony after the prosecution requested it.
Adeyanju verified that the video accurately depicted what he saw on February 13 after watching it.
Under the direction of prosecution attorney Oluwole Aladedoye (SAN), Adeyanju presented the subpoena calling him to testify. Paul Erokoro (SAN), the defence attorney, did not object, so the document was brought into evidence and designated as Exhibit G.
A recording of Adeyanju’s interview on the program and a certificate of compliance were also submitted by the prosecution. The flash drive and certificate were accepted by the court and designated as Exhibits H and H1.
Adeyanju insisted in the taped interview that the SSS would have arrested El-Rufai at the airport if the government had planned to do so.
He also mentioned claims that the previous governor was being investigated by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
El-Rufai should be examined for potential wrongdoing, he added, and any prosecution should come after the investigation’s findings.
El-Rufai is a “ardent violator of human rights,” according to Adeyanju, who also referred to his current situation as “karma.”
Erokoro questioned if he heard El-Rufai specifically say during the interview that he had tapped a phone call during cross-examination.
El-Rufai had stated, “We listened to their calls,” Adeyanju retorted.
He went on to say that since he had no idea how it was done, he would report any claims that a call had been hacked.
However, the witness insisted that he only attended in court because he was summoned and claimed he was unaware of whether the NSA conducted phone conversations in a way that made them audible to others.
In order to continue the trial, Justice Abdulmalik later postponed the case to June 23.
El-Rufai stated in an interview with Arise Television that he had overheard a phone call with Ribadu, which purportedly indicated security personnel’s preparations to arrest him. The SSS then filed the five-count charge against El-Rufai in February.
The former governor was granted N100 million in bail after entering a not guilty plea to the allegations at his arraignment on April 23.
