The hip-hop community lost Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido to Afrobeat rapper Ilbliss

Ilbliss recalled that rap music was booming in Nigeria before rappers like Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido started singing.

Veteran rapper Ilbliss, known as Tobechukwu Ejiofor, said hip-hop lost stars like Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy to Afrobeat.

According to him, these stars started their careers as rappers initially.

In an interview with Radio Now 95.3 FM, Ilbliss recalled that rap music was booming in Nigeria before rappers like Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido started singing.

He said that turning to singing helped him gain global fame. He acknowledged that hip-hop music is not profitable in Nigeria, noting that few rappers have achieved the commercial success that he has.

said: “We (the hip-hop community) lost a lot of soldiers. We lost Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido, three of them were rappers. They discovered the Afrobeat vibe and I think that’s what made them global stars.
“Hip-hop is hard to sell in Nigeria. Not everyone has been as lucky as me, Vector, M.I., Reminisce, Olamide, Phyno, the list is not long.”
