Outgoing Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has refuted allegations that Governor Godwin Obaseki fled the state before handing over to Governor-elect Okpeboro on Monday.
Obaseki term as Edo State Governor officially ended on Monday, November 11, and he is set to hand over to Okpeboro of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the 2024 gubernatorial election, between Tuesday (today) and Monday.
However, there were also rumours that Obaseki was in hiding to avoid arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a claim denied by his team.
Shaibu on Tuesday shared his version of events on the alleged disappearance with Channels Television, saying he had no knowledge of Obaseki’s whereabouts.
He further added that he had not had any conversation with the outgoing governor and that it had been four days since he had seen him around his official residence in Edo.
“The governor and I have been apart for a little while… I haven’t seen him in the last four days, he hasn’t been in contact with me, we don’t talk to each other, so I haven’t heard from him,” Scheib said.
More on that later.
