Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, said in a statement on Saturday night that the attack was launched after reliable intelligence revealed a large-scale movement of ISWAP militants from the Lake Chad Basin to Southern Tambunsu. This was based on a coordinated attack prepared in the area.
“Further intelligence led to the identification of senior ISWAP commanders and militant groups hiding under dense vegetation in Arena Woje, triggering a series of powerful and precise airstrikes.
During the mission, NAF fighter jets fired a volley of bombs and artillery fire, carrying out devastating targeted attacks against terrorist hideouts,” the statement said.
In addition, rapid clearing attacks were carried out to eliminate any fleeing rebels and eliminate the threat once and for all.
The statement further noted that an airstrike on Arena Woje on October 30, 2024, had already dealt a major blow to ISWAP, neutralizing around 50 terrorists, including a commander named Kaid Bashir Dauda.
The success is said to represent a significant step in the AFN’s vigorous counter-terrorism operations and dealt a serious blow to an enemy stronghold.
