An old video clip of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike campaigning against Godfather syndrome is currently going viral on social media.
In the video, Wike, who is now the Minister of the Capital Territory (FCT), can be heard saying that the Godfather syndrome that is affecting some states in Nigeria will not be tolerated in Rivers.
He was particularly of the opinion that the Godfather syndrome system can happen in Lagos State but not in Rivers.
It may happen in Lagos State but not in Rivers, we are very different. As a governor, I will come and go and I cannot stop it. “The day my term ends, God willing, I will leave. It may be difficult considering what is happening in Lagos state can also be achieved here.
“You cannot keep saying you have to be the godfather of the state, that is the problem, it is not possible,” he said.
Meanwhile, the state is currently facing the country’s worst political crisis following a clash between Wike and incumbent governor Siminarai Hubara. The two political warriors are battling for control of the nation’s leadership.
