Following coordinated security operations during the 2026 Takutaba celebration on September 1, Kano State Police have detained 79 people and found illegal narcotics and dangerous weapons.
Thanks to intelligence-led and proactive security measures put in place prior to, during, and following the celebrations, the festivities spread throughout the state without incident.
The Anti-Daba, Anti-Kidn@pping, and VCRU units, along with officers from seven police divisions Ungogo, Sharada, Bachirawa, Rijiyar Lemo, Mandawari, Kwalli, and Gwale were among the tactical units that conducted the operations, according to Kano State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
The party went off without a hitch thanks to this well-planned strategy.
The suspects were detained for a number of suspected violations, according to a statement from police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, however no particular charges were mentioned.
Weapons and illegal drugs were found during the raids, and suspects are currently being investigated. They will face charges in court after the investigations are finished.
Bakori praised locals for collaborating with security personnel and acting peacefully during the festival.
