Taiwo Oyedele has been fully confirmed by the Nigerian Senate to serve as a minister-designate under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Following the nominee’s approval by the Committee of the Whole through a voice vote, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the confirmation.
Oyedele is anticipated to take over as Minister of State for Finance in place of Mrs. Doris Uzoka-Anite. Taiwo Oyedele was vetted by the Senate on Wednesday for the position of Minister of State for Finance.The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, moved to admit the nominee into the chamber during plenary, which marked the start of the screening process. Senators authorised Oyedele’s admission to the chamber to start the ministerial confirmation procedure after the motion.
Basheer Lado, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Senate Matters, then escorted Oyedele into the chamber. At around 2:21 pm, the ministerial nominee and a number of government representatives entered the Senate chamber.
He was accompanied by Tokunbo Kayode, a former minister of defence, and Kayode Ajulo, Ondo State’s commissioner for justice. Taiwo Oyedele was proposed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to succeed Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite as minister of state for finance. In a statement released last week, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, acknowledged the development.The announcement claims that Uzoka-Anite will now assume her third position in the administration as Minister of State at the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.Oyedele, a resident of Ikaram, Akoko, Ondo State, served as the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which reformed Nigeria’s tax system, until President Tinubu selected him as a minister. Oyedele, 50, is an expert in public policy, accounting, and economics.
He received a Higher National Diploma (HND) in accounting and finance from Yaba College of Technology. He received a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University. Additionally, he finished executive education courses at Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, the Harvard Kennedy School, and the London School of Economics.
Oyedele joined PwC in 2001 and worked there for 22 years, reaching to the position of Africa Tax Leader and Fiscal Policy Partner. In addition, Oyedele is a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School and a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State.
