A well-known member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has accused President Bola Tinubu of being unable of managing Nigeria worsening security situation.
Okonkwo made the remarks in an interview with Sunrise Daily on Channels Television on Wednesday, pointing to recent killings in Plateau State and other parts of the country as evidence of what he perceived to be a failure in leadership.
He argued that levels of insecurity had reached terrifying heights nationwide and that the federal government had not demonstrated its capacity to protect people.
“I don’t need to tell any Nigerian now that Nigeria is not working,” Okonkwo declared.
He also criticised the President’s treatment of the victims of the violence, citing his recent trip to Plateau State. You can picture a president visiting Plateau and offering condolences to the victims. He told the victims to come and offer their condolences while he remained at the airport, he added.
Okonkwo proceeded to criticise the administration’s handling of the electricity industry, citing previous promises made by President Tinubu on the delivery of energy.
He said, “This same president was the one who told Nigerians to vote him out if he did not provide electricity.” He said that insecurity is Nigeria’s largest issue and warned that other facets of governance will suffer if the issue is not resolved.
He claims that violent attacks, notably those involving military troops in Borno State, demonstrate the severity of the nation’s problem.
“Our armed forces are being killed and massacred in Borno State,” he declared. Insecurity is an everyday event while I speak to you. Additionally, Okonkwo reiterated statements made by other opposition figures, like as former interior minister Rauf Aregbesola, who recently referred to the ruling party’s “Renewed Hope” strategy as a failure.
“To enable Nigeria to work toward security,” he went on.”You can’t do anything without security.”
He concluded that insecurity remains Nigeria’s greatest issue, emphasising that significant growth is impossible without safety.
