Mr Adegoke Fayoade, the South-West Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), has guaranteed the safe rescue of kidnapped students and their instructors.
During a formal working visit to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja on Monday, Fayoade, who oversees information and communication technology, provided the assurance to reporters.
He noted that in order to guarantee the victims’ prompt rescue, coordinated measures were continuing across pertinent security units.
According to Fayoade, security formations are working together to guarantee that the victims are safely rescued as soon as feasible.
“Every agency, including the government, is working extremely hard, and I can guarantee you that those kids and their teachers will be free as soon as possible,” he declared.
In response to enquiries regarding claims of ransom requests made by the kidnappers, the DIG stated that “the police do not engage in ransom discussions,” emphasising that the victims’ safe rescue remained the operational objective.
We don’t discuss ransom, thus we don’t know anything about it. “Every effort is focused on safely releasing the abductees,” he continued.
Fayoade clarified that the purpose of his visit was to enhance oversight, examine operational methods, and involve staff in better tactics to deal with changing security risks throughout the nation.
He stated that Mr. Olatunji Disu, the Inspector-General of Police (I-GP), will receive the visit’s findings for future action and policy guidance.
The DIG stated that attempts were being made to resolve the major issues brought up during engagements, which included a lack of personnel, officer welfare, and logistical support.
He stated that continuous recruitment efforts were a part of efforts to increase the number of police officers in the country, and that the leadership of the Force continued to place a high premium on employee welfare.
In order to improve information collecting and investigations, Fayoade also emphasised the Nigeria Police Force’s increasing reliance on technology, particularly the creation of a centralised data system and the use of artificial intelligence.
He claimed that the program complemented the I-G’s goal of creating a more technologically advanced and intelligence-driven law enforcement system.
The DIG praised Nigeria Police Force officers and urged them to continue being dedicated, professional, and considerate of human rights while performing their jobs.
Additionally, he underlined the significance of stakeholder support in police, pointing out that efficient security management necessitated cooperation outside of governmental resources.
Fayoade also called for respect between law enforcement and the general people, stating that efficient police and national security still depended on this kind of cooperation.
